From early childhood ….

Leaving the homeland forever is a big challenge for us humans – at any age.

It’s much the same as uprooting a tree. It must adapt to the new climate, allow its roots to grow once more, and over time regain the stability needed to thrive. For young plants, this is relatively unproblematic. As they grow larger, there are no guarantees of success, and for old, established trees, uprooting and transplanting is a major challenge, nearly impossible without professional guidance. Fortunately, when I had to put down new roots, I was only 11 years old. That’s not so difficult, because you quickly learn how to fit in, reorient, adapt and hold your own. 

For my mother, the challenge was much greater: different people, a different culture, a different language, a different life. Daily shopping – no problem. If necessary, you can make yourself understood with your hands and feet. At the new job, it was more difficult. But going to the Doctor was a huge problem. I had to act as a translator, which was a significant challenge for me as a child. These were experiences that shaped me and had a decisive influence on my goal to support other people who are going through a similar situation. 

With Sernitas, we can support people in their integration in Germany and help them to participate in society more and more easily. In our facilities, we create a cultural and linguistic environment in which people feel comfortable, regardless of their country of birth.

It is very fulfilling to support people and at the same time be part of a successful organization.
